VATICAN CITY, SEPT. 22, 2010 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI named Archbishop Giovanni d'Aniello, apostolic nuncio to the Democratic Republic of Congo, as his representative to four other countries.

Archbishop d'Aniello, 55, was appointed apostolic nuncio to Thailand and Cambodia, and apostolic delegate to Myanmar and Laos, a Vatican communiqué reported today.

He succeeds Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio, who was appointed apostolic nuncio to India last May.

Archbishop d'Aniello has been serving in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2001. He was ordained a bishop shortly after that appointment.

The Italian-born prelate has been a priest since 1978, when he was ordained for the Diocese of Aversa, Italy.
